Who will run all these tiny apps?
What happens after AI builds a useful app for six people?
In its Fall 2026 Requests for Startups, Y Combinator asks for a cloud for “small software.” Pete Koomen means tools made for one person or a handful of teammates. Agents can make these tools quickly. Getting them online and sharing them is still work.
The first shared link
Imagine someone makes a page for a Saturday football group. It shows who is playing, who has paid for the pitch, and who is bringing the bibs. The first version works on their laptop. Then they send it to the rest of the group.
Where do everyone's updates go? Who can mark a payment as complete? If the maker changes the page next week, will the old entries still be there?
Nobody needs a grand product plan for that page. They need it to work until the season ends. A web host can serve the page, but a shared tool may also need saved data, accounts, permissions, and a way to update the code without losing what people entered. For a small app, setting those up can take longer than making the screen.
Six users still need trust
The small audience does not make every problem small. An open link could show people's names and payment status to anyone who finds it. One player could accidentally change someone else's entry. The app's creator needs a way to decide who can read and edit each part.
There is another question if an agent wrote the code: what is that code allowed to reach once it is running? Koomen calls out permissions and the risk of letting people share arbitrary code. A cloud for these tools has to make the safe choice easy for someone who has never configured a server.
What I would want from that cloud
YC compares the goal to sharing a Google Doc. I think the test goes further than producing a link. Can I invite the right people, change a rule next week, see what broke, and close the app when nobody needs it? Can the people using it get their data out?
I like this YC idea because it leaves room for an app that never needs more than six users. If the football group can open the same link next Saturday, find their names where they left them, and trust that only they can change the list, the cloud has done its job.
